"My New Year's Resolution"

This new year has got me thinking. Should I make a New Year's Resolution? Is it even worth wasting my time and thoughts?

In the past, I have made resolutions. To this day, I have not kept one of them. Not one.

However, this year I feel more compelled to make and keep this one.

I am currently working 30 hours per week, taking 5 college courses, and raising 4 children. Not to mention that I'm having surgery this week.

So, what's my resolution for this year?

To survive all of this without going crazy maybe? To remain civil to my husband and children in spite of the stress I'll be under? You would think.

But, that's not it at all. My resolution is to stop procrastinating so much and start being more motivated when it comes to school.

This is my last semester. I'm due to graduate in May, assuming all goes well. This degree has been a lot of years in the making. I was very indecisive about what I wanted to be "when I grew up". I finally decided on Web Design.

How am I going to keep my resolution? I have no idea. I would appreciate any recommendations or suggestions.

"Mommy's First Day of School"

Well, school finally started. I am now half-way through the first week. As it stands right now, I'm just extremely excited to start a new semester knowing that it's my last. I look forward to seeing the friends that I made along the way. I saw all of them again tonight.

I truly feel like home at BPCC (where I'm taking all of these lovely classes).

Well, let me tell you one thing that happened at BPCC today that didn't make me feel like home.

I had been having a lot of abdominal pain and was pretty much on bed rest. But, being the stubborn person that my husband says I am, I went to school.

As soon as I got on the elevater, along with 10 or so others, the thing stopped working. When we'd punch the numbers, nothing happened. It was either too much weight from the previous load (as I'd like to think) or it was too much weight from the load I was in (of course that's not possible). I only weight 98 pounds. LOL!

If you believe that, I have some real esate that I'd like to sell you, LOL.

Anyway, so we call got off the elevator and headed toward the stairs. I knew that having the abdominal pain, being tired, and having a bad knee and back, it wasn't going to be pretty.

But, off I went.

I took about two steps and rested, then two more, then rested, and so on. By the time I finally made it to the third floor, I could barely breathe. That silly high-tech elevator is always breaking down. Always!

But, I digress........

All in all, it was a good day. Tomorrow will be an entirely different story. I'll fill you in later on that.

"Can I pull it off?"

It's almost that time again. Time to go back to school. I'm talking about me, not the kids.

I'm currently attending college, majoring in Web Design & Development.

This is supposed to be my last semester; then I graduate! Yippee!

I'm just a little scared this time b/c I'll be taking 4 classes, working almost full time, and handling 2-4 kids and their activities. Who wouldn't be scared, right?

Well, I just hope I can pull it off. Everyone wish me luck!

"Something's Gotta Give"

I’m sure I’m not the only mom going through this. I want to share this little tidbit of my life in hopes that someone out there has a solution for me.

First, let me tell you a little about myself:

I’m a 31 year old mother of 4 boys. They are 4, 7, 8, and 10. The older two don’t live with us. They are my step-sons and live with their mother in Texas. However, they do stay here often.

I’m also a student majoring in Web Design. I work part-time.

Here’s my problem........

Starting next semester (January), I will be going to school full time. That means I’ll be taking 4 classes, probably at night. I will be working about 32 hours per week or more.

Right now both of my boys are taking karate. So, twice a week for two hours, I sit up at the karate place with them.

Last year my 7 year old son played fast-pitch baseball. He wants to play again this year, of course.

Not thinking, I promised my 4 year old son that I would let him play teeball this next year as well.

How in the world am I going to manage all of this? Last year, when my older son was playing baseball and karate, we had something every night but Thursday. I’m sure my younger son’s teeball will take the only extra night.

How do you balance the schedules of the two kids? I cannot take them out of karate b/c it’s a year round activity. I guess I can continue to pay for it and not do it. I don’t want to teach them that it’s ok to quit one thing just to do another. Plus, they want to do it.

As long as my son’s grades aren’t suffering, I don’t have a problem with it. I just wonder if any other moms have dealt with this kind of schedule? How do you do it?

Share your tips HERE.

"Summer's End"

It’s been a long summer! During the summer, my boys stay with their father and my step-sons stay with my husband and me. This requires a LOT of driving. The trips between picking them up and dropping them off have put a real damper on our finances. It seems that we only travel the day after the gas prices skyrocket.

I’ll be glad when school starts. To me, the routine that the Fall brings is comforting. The summers are always filled with uncertainty, as was proved this summer. I’m not sure I can take another one like this.

For now, I’m going to concentrate on making sure that my baby boy is happy and healthy.

This will be a time of great reflection for me.

I’m hoping that with the new season a sense of comfort will come, although I’m not counting on it.

I’m learning to just try and go with the flow and stop fighting. I feel powerless in my endeavors as of late.

I am comforted by the fact that I have a great job to go to each day. It distracts me from the chaos. The jokes from my co-workers and words of encouragement from my readers keep me going each and every day. Thank you!

I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but I do know that I have my precious little 4 year old boy and that he’s not going anywhere.
